Post Trade: Memphis Grizzlies

Is it weird when one of the top online bookmakers Australia has focuses its attention on the NBA scene? You don’t really think that Australian bookmakers online are just all about Australian Rules football right?

Well look at here, another installment on the post-trade look on one of the NBA teams worth looking at. The Grizzlies who are currently sitting at the number four spot on the western conference is surely worth looking at.

A few weeks before the trade deadline last February, the Memphis Grizzlies already made a significant change up in its roster. The resulting trade sent Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi away to the Toronto Raptors and drawing in Tayshaun Prince, Austin Daye and Ed Davis. Let’s be frank here, the only names worth talking about in this trade is Gay and Prince.

Although always had his inconsistencies, his ability to create shots on his own makes him an integral part of the offense of Grizzlies when set plays don’t go as planned. He is a decent defender, no matter what stats may say, making his man work for shots. However, Prince is a better defender than Gay. So the concern here was about plugging the hole in the offense that the trading away of Gay has left.

Obviously, Prince isn’t a player who’s good at creating his own shot. Still, a system player, the Grizzlies have gambled on Prince to play well in sets enough that there won’t be need for a Gay-like player. So how’s it gone so far?

The Grizzlies are 9-2 since the trade. Not too shabby John Hollinger.
