Here’s another one from the Australian website for betting on sports. A look at one of the rising players that could be the center of attention this coming offseason. If you bet on sports such as the NBA, you better keep your eyes peeled for Nikola Pekovic.
The last few games for the Minnesota Timberwolves have been their healthier form this season. Andrei Kirilenko, Nikola Pekovic and Chase Budinger are playing in a better form right now and giving opposing some quite the challenge. Out of this three, the one that captures my attention the most is Pekovic for several good reasons.
The last few games are not all wins, but the way Pekovic demonstrate his dominance in the low block is very noticeable. The way he played against the Oklahoma City Thunder showed just how much trouble he could cause for opposing teams, bulldozing and manhandling defenders. And it’s not like he played against bad defenders. Thunder’s Serge Ibaka has the length and athleticism to defend well while Kendrick Perkins plays a good old rugged defense in the post. Still, Pekovic was too much to handle for them.
These days, there are not a lot of players in the NBA that can consistently contribute from the low post. That is why teams who want to increase their offensive punch might fight over Pekovic this summer. The only unproven aspect of Pekovic’s game right now is his defense. Still, for league hungry for dominant centers, Pekovic is making a very compelling case.
